Ok, so I'll admit it... I never looked at SOL Republic until I saw Michael Phelps wearing them at the Olympics. Realizing that it was a sponsorship thing, I was intrigued, but skeptical. Michael has repeatedly said that music was a pretty important part of his pre-race routine, so I figured, at the very least, these would have to be half-decent cans (yes, very circumstantial/anecdotal evidence, I know). Oh, and THEN he broke out the Deadmau5 edition!

Right, so, you get the idea. I liked the style, so I started reading reviews. The general consensus was that these were every bit as good as Beats, but at half the price. Now, I already have Audio Technica ATH-M50's (over the ear) and ATH-CKM55's (buds), and frankly, I am a big AT fan. They sneak in with great sound and they don't have the "Bose tax" (or substitute your favorite SOMETIMES overpriced brand here). Well, at least they did when I bought them.
