This review is from: Mini MK802 Android 4.0 Google TV Box HD IPTV Player PC Allwinner A10 1G DDR3 (Electronics) I received my miniPC via USPS yesterday in great condition - it took just 7 days to ship from HK, China to the bay area here in California. I ordered the 1GB DDR3 ram version (Android settings say Model number AK-MINI-PC-001, Android version 4.0.3, Baseband 4.0.11, Kernel 3.0.8+, Build crane_risctek-eng 4.0.3 IML74K 20120608 test-keys)After thumbing through the included manual, I plugged it in to my Samsung 27" TV and powered it up. In less than two minutes, I was at an Android 4.0 desktop home screen (running in 1920x1080 resolution). It connected to my WiFi AP on the first try and seems to pull decent speeds even though my router is on the other side of my house and most devices only get ~50% signal in this room. Overall, the OS looks like it has some tweaks. It's configured as a tablet with the status/notification bar at the bottom of the screen. Volume up/down buttons have been added to the bar in addition to the default back/home/switcher icons that... I had a lot of hope for it but unfortunately it had to be returned. It overheats, reboots, freezes, video comes in and goes out, apps don't work right. It's underdeveloped and badly engineered. I have tried two of these so far and the results were the same both times. I thought maybe I had a bad one the first time, but nope. They're just not ready for the real world yet. Maybe some day when someone steps in and makes it better. 8 of 9 people found the following review helpful ![]() By This review is from: Mini MK802 Android 4.0 Google TV Box HD IPTV Player PC Allwinner A10 1G DDR3 (Electronics) I got this item to run Linux(due to Android's blackbox issues and lack of opensource), it's not officially supported but there are Ubuntu and Fedora images out.Note that graphic acceleration does not work on Linux(yet) so not ideal to view videos etc. But bash prompt runs fantastic! Device runs around 1 loadavg on Ubuntu, when you run some serious things, it goes 4-5, overheats and locks up. I removed one side cover and run it like this now, it did not freeze like this but CPU and RAM chips still get very hot. On Linux, now it's web server, file server, print server(not tested but should work over USB), later with Mali 400 drivers developed, it can be very good multimedia server. Very small, no fans, can get warm but not too much and surely better than leaving a PC or laptop on for occasional server work. Has 5V/2A power but also works fine from USB power. Search online for overheating issue, I still like the item because of price and I... Read more |
